Ingredients

  • 500g shortcrust pastry
  • 350g minced pork
  • 250g minced beef
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 1 celery stick, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 150ml beef stock
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 potato, cooked and mashed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and black pepper

Method

Cook the onion and celery in a wide pan for 6 minutes until soft.

Add the garlic, pork, and beef, breaking the meat up as it browns.

Stir in the stock, allspice, cinnamon, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Simmer for 15 minutes until the liquid has mostly reduced.

Stir in the mashed potato to bind the filling, then cool.

Line a pie dish with pastry, add the filling, and top with more pastry.

Brush with beaten egg and bake at 190C for 35-40 minutes until golden.
